Introduction to the Key Personnel

Project ASTEROID Special Project Advisors

Project ASTEROID is supported by a distinguished panel of Special Project Advisors who recognize the need for a new telescope dedicated to NEO follow-up astrometry and have endorsed Project ASTEROID to fill the gap. These individuals have made major contributions to our understanding of the solar system and understand the importance of continued monitoring of the NEO threat. Winer Observatory welcomes their support and advice with Project ASTEROID.

Dr. David H. Levy

Internationally known comet hunter, Parade Magazine Science Editor, host of the radio show Let's Talk Stars, and recipient of four honorary doctorate degrees, Dr. Levy is perhaps best known as the co-discoverer of Comet Shoemaker-Levy 9 that split into dozens of pieces and impacted Jupiter in July 1994.

Dr. Clark R. Chapman

A noted planetary scientist and Near Earth Object expert, Dr. Chapman is Institute Scientist at the Southwest Research Institute in Boulder, Colorado. He has published extensively on NEO impact hazards and their effects on Earth.

In a letter dated 22 October 2004, Dr. Chapman states "I have had long interest and involvement in issues surrounding the asteroid/comet impact hazard and I recognize both the high degree of public interest in this topic as well as the 'hole' in the Spaceguard telescopic survey work that the proposed telescope and endeavor would help fill."

Wayne Rosing

A leader in Silicon Valley technology development, Wayne Rosing is the former Vice President of Engineering at Google, Inc. A few years before joining Google, he was the President of FirstPerson, Inc., a subsidiary of Sun Microsystems that developed the original Java platform, and before that, Vice President of Technology at Sun Microsystems.
